Ask anyone on our team where to eat and you will get a strong opinion. We asked all of them, argued for a week, and agreed on seven places that are close, honest and not trying too hard.

For a quiet dinner

A tiny tasca on Rua da Rosa does one fish of the day and a carafe of vinho verde. There are eight tables and no website. Tell them we sent you and you’ll get the corner seat.

For a long Sunday

Across the square, a family restaurant serves arroz de pato from noon until it runs out. Book for one o’clock, order the custard tart before you need it, and plan nothing for the afternoon.
