(About) — Since 1908
A house that pays attention.

The salon on the ground floor, after ten.
(01) — The story
We bought a leaking, empty townhouse in 2019 and spent two years giving it back its manners.
The house at number 56 was built in 1908 for a family of cork merchants. It was divided into flats in the seventies and slowly forgotten. When we found it, the stair was intact, the shutters were original and the lemon tree in the courtyard was still fruiting.
We kept everything we could and made the rest nearby: linen from the Minho, wool from Mira de Aire, basalt from the Azores, oak from a joiner in Caldas da Rainha. Twenty-four rooms, each built around one material and one kind of light.

(03) — What we hold to
01
Quiet over grand
No lobby music, no towel animals, no upsell at check-in. A good room is a quiet room.
02
Made nearby
Almost everything in the house was made within a day’s drive of Lisbon, by people we can call by name.
03
Remember everything
How you take your coffee, which pillow you chose, the name of your dog. Written down, never asked twice.
(04) — The people
Twelve people. Four you’ll meet first.
